Given the success of the first Race Night held on Saturday 17th October 2009, this event is set to become an annual PA event.

The Race Night brings all the thrills, spills and excitement of the Sport of Kings to the School. If you haven’t been to a Race Night before then it is just like attending a day at the races, but with a guarantee of being inside in the warm and dry!

The evening consists of eight races, each race featuring eight racehorses. These races are a selection of real flat and national hunt races, all on DVD, that are projected onto a large screen.

Prior to each race you have the opportunity to have a bet on the Tote on one or more racehorse of your choice. After the Tote closes for each race, the race to be shown is selected at random by a member of the audience. Then, after each race is shown, the Tote pays out to the lucky punters who backed the winning racehorse.

In addition to the horse racing, the final bidding for the PA Auction of Promises also took place. Again, this was a major success with a substantial amount of money being raised by the PA.

Overall, the 2009 Race Night raised nearly £3,800 with the Auction of Promises raising £2,6780 and the Race Night itself raising £1,100.

How can you help?

In terms of help required, the Race Night is one of the least onerous events that the PA runs. However, tables and chairs need to be set out prior to the event, and cleared away afterwards. The PA also runs a bar at the Race Night, which needs to be manned, and the PA also needs volunteers to collect bets and pay out winnings on the Tote.

You can also support the Race Night by coming along on the night and having a flutter!

When is the next one?

The next Race Night will be held at the School on Saturday 23rd October 2010.
