Parmiter's School Parents' Association

The first Parmiterian Golf Day was held on Thursday 2^nd June at Bushey Hall Golf Club. Organised jointly by the Garston OP Society and the Parmiter’s Parents’ Association, the intention was to bring together golfers from all parts of the Parmiter’s family for an enjoyable and sociable day of golf.

44 golfers in 11 teams took part on the day; 2 staff teams, 2 Bethnal Green OP teams, 1 Garston OP team and 6 parents’ teams. Also included in these teams were a few students, relatives and friends. Martin Rabenau, a Bethnal Green OP who had just come along to be sociable, stepped in when a player from one of the parents’ teams dropped out at the last minute. This proved to be a stroke of luck for the Parents because Martin helped them to come in second place in the team competition! Another notable team included three generations from the same family; Year 8 student Jay Shann, his Dad, his Grandmother (who played off a handicap of 20 and was the only lady golfer on the day) and a family friend.

The weather on the 2^nd June was fabulous and Bushey Hall Clubhouse proved to be an organised and welcoming venue with its attractive course dating from 1890. On arrival the golfers were served a light lunch before playing 18 holes to compete for the Parmiterian Golf Day team shield and also for the chance to win the Parmiterian Golf Day cup for the best individual score. There were also nearest the pin and longest drive competitions.

After the golf the teams were joined by a few extra guests who came for the evening meal, an enjoyable three course dinner served upstairs in the club house dining room which offers lovely views across the course. Finally, the winners were presented with their prizes. The Parmiterian team shield was won by the Garston OP team comprising of A. O’Brien, D. Dormer, D. Pardy and J. Cerasale. The individual winner of the Parmiterian cup was Tom Clark, a member of the Parmiter’s PE department. The cup and shield are now engraved with the 2011 winner’s names and on display at school waiting for next year’s golf day!
